Rimini is an Italian dynamic, open, easily accessible and technological “plug & play” city, located on the Northeastern coast facing the Adriatic sea that counts nearly 150.000 inhabitants.
It is one of the most famous European tourist locations but since the mid-1970's it has become an important congress destination. Nowadays Rimini and the Riviera host 7,000 events with over 1 million 200 hundreds participants (both national and international) per year.
It has been one of the most important city of the ancient Roman Empire and today it is a flourishing center for congresses and trade fairs as already discussed. The new and technologically advanced Palacongressi di Rimini is the largest in Italy. The new Trade Exhibition Complex, an array of steel, glass and fountains designed by famous architects, is one of the foremost in Europe.
Founded by the Romans in 268 B.C., Rimini has been the scene of many disputes in its two-thousand year history. Significant traces of the city's past remain today: the Arch of Augustus (27 B.C.), the Tiberius bridge (21 A.D.), the Roman Amphitheatre (2 A.D.), and the Malatesta Temple, one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture anywhere in Italy. Today, the old town is full of charm and vitality. Not to be missed is a visit to Domus, an archaeological excavation site of a Roman Surgeon’s House, inaugurated in 2007.
